If a picture is worth a thousand words, then at least through my lens, the essence of photography is about giving the photograph a voice to speak those words. As the photographer, my goal is to be in the right place at the right time to capture these stories. When snapping photos, I might ask for eye contact or consent to shoot, but I am still attempting to let the photograph tell the story, without my direction. I try to capture what I see, not what I envision.

While I absolutely love capturing portraits on the street. My inspirations are Paul Dwyer, Vivan Maier, Jeff Mermelstein, Robert Frank, Joel Meyerowitz, Fan Ho, and Elliot Erwitt. If you want to see what I mean, check out the work of any of those artists, their photos make you able to smell the street.

In terms of aperture, shutter speed, and ISO, I’m as amateur as they come, green behind the ears. Even though I was born in Rochester, NY, home to Kodak and the son of a passionate photographer who only shot on Kodak film for decades, I wasn’t the one pressing the shutter release button, I was the subject.

In terms of this project, One.NYC, this is probably the tenth iteration. My vision for the project is constantly changing and evolving. In essence, One.NYC is a place for me to showcase the tremendous beauty that I see in the people and places of New York City.

Thanks for checking it out! Keep in touch with yourself.
